Buying a TV is an important event because it is a kind of center of attraction in any apartment. Having decided on the characteristics, functionality, size, and, ultimately, the specific model, the owners finally receive a box with their purchase. We will consider the steps that are necessary when getting acquainted with a new TV to fully use the purchase.

Unboxing

Before opening the TV box, you should take care of the free space in the working area. Such an area should have a flat surface on which you can lay the TV without fear for its integrity.

The working area should be larger than the TV, both in width and height.

To avoid damaging the device screen, it is advisable to cover the work area with a soft material. A blanket or terry sheet is ideal for this purpose.

After organizing the work area, study the information on the box. At this stage, the user should focus not on the technical characteristics and functionality of the device, but on the pictograms explaining the extraction method.

However, the first thing the user will see after opening the package will be the “Quick Installation Guide”, which will explain step-by-step the stages of removing the TV from the packaging and the subsequent actions.

For owners of TVs with a diagonal size of 40 inches (102 cm) or more, manufacturers strongly recommend enlisting the help of an assistant and removing the device from the box only in tandem with him. It is not about the weight of the TV but about its dimensions and bulkiness.

When removing the TV from the packaging, be especially careful about how you grip the device. Hold it securely, but do not apply too much pressure to the screen surface. Excessive pressure may damage it.

Take the TV out of the box in a vertical position and operate it only horizontally. Also, do not place the device on its edge without support, even for a short time. This can cause the TV to fall and damage the screen.

Remove the TV from the box and place it face down on the previously prepared surface. After that, remove absolutely all protective transport films from the device’s body. They will not preserve the appearance of the device, but will only spoil it. In addition, some of them probably cover the ventilation holes, disrupting the air circulation and cooling of the internal components of the TV as thought out by the manufacturer.

Preparing for installation

The implementation of this stage depends entirely on the chosen type of TV installation in the room. There are two types of device placement:

  • installation on furniture. It is carried out using a standard leg or a set of supports;
  • wall mounting using a special bracket (purchased separately).

If you need to install the TV on furniture, you need to attach the standard supports that come with the device to the body. To do this, you only need a Phillips-head screwdriver.

To fix the support on the device body, insert special protrusions on the leg into the corresponding grooves on the TV body and fix the stands with the standard screws included in the delivery set. The procedure takes no more than 10 minutes. The main thing is to follow the instructions exactly.

Mounting the TV on the wall will require more time and effort. The step-by-step installation procedure is covered in great detail in the DNS Club article.

Here we can only add the following. The delivery set of both the TV and the bracket does not include the screws for attaching the bracket to the TV body. They must be purchased separately.

The thread parameters of the mounting screws are specified in the instructions for the specific TV model.

Pay special attention to their length! The screw should be screwed into the device body no more than five full turns. If you make more turns, there is a risk of damaging the internal components of the TV.

The bracket model should be selected based on the specific location of the TV mounting. For example, when placing it in the center of the wall or at eye level, a stationary model is quite sufficient. When installed in a corner, a model with a swivel mechanism is required. When placing at a significant height, it would be advisable to choose a model with an adjustable screen angle.

Connection

The specific configuration depends on the capabilities of the selected TV model and the available set of multimedia devices. As a rule, a typical scheme includes:

  • television signal cable (digital, cable or satellite TV);
  • connection to a home network with Internet access (Wi-Fi or Ethernet);
  • connecting a game console, multimedia playback devices, receiver and speakers, etc.;
  • connection to the electrical network.

For greater convenience and to avoid “overloading” the space with an abundance of wires, all necessary connection points are located in close proximity to the TV. It is highly desirable to install specialized sockets.

It is better to place the sockets themselves on the wall behind the TV case. Then neither they nor the connecting wires will be conspicuous.

Setting up connections is usually straightforward. Most often, it happens automatically. The user only occasionally has to intervene in the process to specify the necessary parameters. For example, the access point name and home network password.

If any difficulties arise, do not hesitate to refer to the operating instructions.

There are two ways to connect your TV to the Internet: via the built-in Wi-Fi module or an Ethernet cable.

If the model has both interfaces, choose the wired connection. It is more stable and has a higher throughput.

When viewing heavy content with a high bitrate from a home file server or PC via a wireless Wi-Fi network, unplanned pauses for loading the stream are inevitable.”Cozy” viewing in this mode is simply impossible.

Indoor location

The choice of installation location is so individual that it is even awkward to give any advice. It depends on the configuration of the room, the arrangement of furniture in it, the number of windows, the overall lighting system and many other factors.

But when determining the location of the TV, you should take into account several rules, and, importantly, the recommendations of doctors:

  1. The distance from the device to the viewer should be at least 2.5-3 times the diagonal size of the screen. For example, for a 40-inch TV, the minimum distance should be 2.5-3 m.
  2. The screen should not be exposed to direct sunlight. This makes viewing difficult and strains the eyes. If the room is located on the sunny side, it is preferable to hang thick curtains there to avoid glare on the screen.
  3. The most comfortable position is considered to be when the center of the screen is at a height of 1-1.3 m from the floor level.
  4. If you install a TV in the bedroom, the screen should be located in front of the bed. It is better to place it above the bed and tilt it down a little. Then it will be comfortable to watch TV both sitting and lying down.
  5. When installing a TV in the kitchen, you should choose a location so that the device is located at a sufficient distance from heat sources (stoves or hobs);
  6. Conventional TVs are not suitable for installation in saunas, baths, swimming pools, and other rooms with high humidity. They will quickly fail from contact with a humid environment. There is a special line of moisture-proof TVs for these purposes, but it has not gained much popularity due to its rarity and high cost.

As you can see, the procedure for installing and connecting a TV is not that complicated. You need to determine a convenient place to install the TV from the point of view of both comfort and health. If you do everything wisely, then in the future you will only have to enjoy watching TV.
